Summary/Paraphrase 

Objective: 
Students will be able to know about summary and paraphrase. Then they can use these information for writing.

Why we use summary and paraphrase in writing?


  • You Don't want to copy other work or ideas.
  • Highlight an important sentence or details by summarizing or paraphrasing the original.



Summary
A summary is a shortened version of an original text. You must briefly write down the main idea and supporting details in a few sentences.


Paraphrase
A paraphrase is simply a rewriting of a passage in your own words.


Summary
Paraphrase
A summary is in your own words, but some key words may not be able to be changed. 
A paraphrase is in your own words, but you must change both the words and the sentence structures of the original paragraph.
A summary can be selective. You can ignore some ideas that do not important. 
A paraphrase is specific and should not be selective. 
A summary is much shorter than the original paragraph.
A paraphrase is usually the same length as original paragraph.
